Short piece of work today. Glued my first frame today. Had a little trouble with screwing properly. But my old man suggested using a tapered countersink bit for creating pilot holes in the white oak hardwood. I guess you have to snap a few screws before you learn your lesson!

Day #8
Today I cut out the last of my frame pieces, the stem, and trimmed the keel down to size. All I have left to cut is a few gussets and the breasthook. What a SUPER productive afterwork project today!! WAHOOO!!!

Day #7
Today I spent time cutting the frames for the transom. I cut three frames and sanded them. I am going to make my first alteration to the boat plan. I am going to double up the transom so that there are two plywood boards for the transom. This will make it so I have a very strong transom on the boat. Check out my sanded frames below!!

Day #6
Today I purchased the Keel...a sixteen foot piece of White Oak from Downes & Reader Hardwood in Stoughton, MA. Locally I don't think they can be beat when it comes to pricing. I am very glad I found them. However transporting a sixteen foot piece of white oak was a challenge with my short bed F-150. Thankfully I made it home safely. Also today in the freezing cold I traced out my transom on a 4' x 8' DF sheet of plywood and cut it out. This made me very happy and I feel like I accomplished a lot. I used a jig-saw and Roto-Zip to cut out the transom. Until tomorrow folks!

Day #5
Today was the first day I had to go to work since I started building the Bo-Jest. What a day...as in all I could think about outside of work was what was I going to try and do when I get home before the sunlight goes away!! Well I finally got all the frames cut (except for the transom and stem). So today was very productive!! Up next cut transom, transom frames, then the stem and breast hook. Today I also put together a new tool I am really excited to have now... my new Ridgid Oscillating Edge Belt/Spindle Sander. Many people in the Glen-L forums and other wood boat forums have suggested this power tool so I got it and I can't wait to use it! Have a great day!!

Day #4
Well today was another short day with the build but I did accomplish a few things. I re-squared and leveled the form. I also cut out frame number 4. The pictures below are just a rough spacing to get a feel of the size of the boat and space to work with. Today I purchased the West System Six 10 tubes (2 of them) for framing epoxy. A lot of people in the Glen-L forums have suggested it. Very neat and accurate mixing system (all you do is pump it out of the tube as it mixes itself!!) I am pretty excited to get the frames/transom/ stem glued up with the keel and the rest of the structure together!!

Day #3
The continued winter snow has kept me from doing any pliable work on the Bo-Jest. So thankfully I still have tracing to do! Here are a few pics of my day inside.!
